DR MIKE SCHOFIELD
Mike is a Sports Scientist, Performance Coach, and Olympic Medal-Winning Throws Coach with over two decades of experience in sport, both as an athlete and coach. From his own competitive journey representing New Zealand in Golf and Olympic Weightlifting, Mike’s passion for performance was born, not from ego, but from an unwavering curiosity about what truly drives athletic excellence.
Driven by a desire to understand the principles behind peak performance, Mike pursued his studies at Auckland University of Technology, earning a Master’s degree in Golf Performance and Strength & Conditioning. His academic journey didn’t stop there. He completed a PhD in Throwing Biomechanics and Power Sports Strength & Conditioning, becoming a Doctor of Philosophy while continuing to coach athletes to the highest level.
Today, Mike is dedicated to helping athletes, from track and field to golf and power sports, achieve their goals through precise biomechanics analysis, tailored strength and conditioning programs, and a relentless attention to detail. His approach is athlete-centred, blending science with practicality to deliver world-class results without losing sight of what matters most: helping athletes reach their full potential.
When he’s not coaching, Mike is likely immersed in a research paper, designing custom training equipment, mentoring upcoming coaches, or hanging out with his golden retriever, Freddie.
MISSION
Mike’s mission is to guide athletes to their peak performance through an innovative blend of biomechanics, strength and conditioning, and proven, science-backed training methods.
With a deep understanding of human movement and athletic development, he optimises every aspect of an athlete’s training, bridging the gap between scientific theory and practical, results-driven coaching. Mike translates complex performance principles into real-world strategies, helping athletes excel on both the national and international stage.
His goal? To help every athlete he works with unlock their potential and perform at their best, whether that’s chasing personal bests or standing on a world podium.
